Bao is a very highly strategic game and its core is calculation. It's almost impossible to win without an accurate calculation.
Some people, especially beginners, can feel frustration at it!
Anyway if they succeed to keep on playing even though they are losing almost every time, they will certainly enjoy the game!
Here there are some basic tips which hopely help to overcome the initial frustration:
When you see that you can empty your house, do it. After you have well memorised the previous 3 tips, you can start learning how to manage the house.
1) Try (it's a must!) to concentrate on calculation of the distribution of seeds resulting from the move you would like to make
2) ABSOLUTELY ALWAYS protect your pit 5 (nyumba) emptying/capturing your opponent's front pit (4).
3) always try to have one seed in one of your kichwa (heads: the first and last pits of your front row a/A). One seed in the last pit (no. 8) helps to empty own nyumba (house).
4) if your opponent could capture your kimbi (pit 2 or 7) and any other pit, let him/her capture your kimbi and protect the other pit.
5) when you see that you can empty your house, do it. After you have well memorised the previous 4 tips, you can start learning how to manage the house.
6) look up rules every now and then.
We can say that these are the basic tactics that beginners should try to memorise.
Don't give up this game takes time... and claims a lot of losses!

Bao è un gioco profondamente strategico e la sua essenza è il calcolo. E' quasi impossibile vincere senza un conteggio accurato.
Alcune persone, in particolare i principianti, possono sentirsi frustrati!
Tuttavia se riescono a insistere nel giocare anche se perdono quasi sempre, sicuramente prima o poi apprezzeranno il gioco!
Ecco alcune dritte di base che si spera aiuteranno a sconfiggere l'iniziale frustrazione:
1) Cercare (è fondamentale!) di concentrarsi soltanto sul conteggio dei semi dopo la semina che si ha intenzione di fare
2) ASSOLUTAMENTE SEMPRE proteggere la propria buca n. 5 (nyumba) svuotando/catturando l'adiacente buca avversaria (n. 4).
3) cercare di avere sempre un seme in ciascuna delle proprie kichwa (teste: la prima e l'ultima buca della propria riga centrale a/A). Un seme nell'ultima buca (n. 8) aiuta a svuotare la propria nyumba (casa).
4) se l'avversario può catturare una propria kimbi (buca n. 2 opp. n. 7) e un'altra buca, proteggere quest'ultima e lasciar catturare la kimbi.
5) quando è possibile svuotare la propria nyumba (casa: buca n. 5) farlo. Solo dopo aver memorizzato le precedenti dritte inizia a imparare come gestire la nyumba.
6) consultare spesso le regole.
Si può dire che queste sono le tattiche di base che i principianti dovrebbero cercare di memorizzare. Non rinunciare... questo gioco richiede tempo e molte sconfitte!
